This entertaining action/adventure has paranormal elements, good secondary characters, and defined MCs who are determined, intelligent, and learning about the paranormal characters they must deal with. I liked the world-building in the enjoyable story.
The intro to this series had me burning through pages what an introduction to such characters and fighting demons to spirits. Loved the paranormal in this! Plus a solid fast pace read.
The story starts at a dig site in Egypt where the main character triggers a disaster with fatal consequences and a mountain of casualties; because he thought less of “stories”. When an ex-soldier, lost in the desert but equipped with a solid sense of direction, and clear survival skills meets our main character, an alliance is formed and such stories are shared as well as revealed. An artifact did in fact survive the dig site disaster and with it carries mystical powers. This is where the story timelines start to melt and we meet a character that has information on the artifact that I can only assume will be coming in the next book.
Overall an exciting and fun read I will pick this book up and also share around.
I really enjoyed this prequel. The story gets you hooked from the start. Definitely recommended.
The story starts at an archeological dig in Egypt where the main character triggers a disaster with fatal consequences. When an ex-soldier, lost in the desert but equipped with superior survival skills and a better sense of direction, is unexpectedly met, an alliance is formed and secrets are exchanged. An artefact which survived the dig disaster seems to have mystical powers with artefact and aristocrat blurring who possesses whom. An interlude in the Garden of England, Kent seems to embroil our duo in time travel, but resolves the unquiet spirit which first drew them in. A gentleman with knowledge of the nature of the artefact and the powers it can bestow is added to the mix, but the book ends before he is added to the team.
For someone who doesn't usually read paranormal, I read this book because it's by Tom Kane, one of my favourite authors. It didn't disappoint. It has all the hallmarks of this authors writing. Excellent storytelling, interesting characters and enough action to keep me reading and interested. I particularly enjoyed Cedric's dry wit. He made laugh out loud at least once. I would recommend all of Tom Kane's series and individual books. They're great reading!
